Launch of online survey and provincial consultation tour for the Youth Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Services Review
FREDERICTON (GNB) - The New Brunswick Child, Youth and Seniors’ Advocate launched an online survey and released dates for the provincial consultation tour today, to seek additional public input for the Youth Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Services Review.
To engage and reach most New Brunswickers for this review process, Child, Youth and Seniors’ Advocate Norman Bossé invites the public to share their experiences with youth mental health services and suggest suicide prevention solutions for children and youth by filling out the online community survey, registering to participate, and submitting questions for the local consultation sessions to be held virtually in different communities across the province from May 18 to June 7.
“In order to complete a thorough review and to identify support and systems to minimize the risk of youth suicide, my team and I want to hear first-hand from New Brunswickers who wish to share their stories,” said Bossé. “I want anyone in communities across the province to have a chance to ask questions and be part of the solution in this review process.”
The community survey is designed to solicit feedback and collect statistical data from youth and adults about their experiences accessing youth mental health services. The answers will help lay the foundation for recommendations in the final report.
The Youth Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Services Review was prompted by the passing of 16-year-old Lexi Daken in Fredericton.
The Child, Youth and Seniors’ Advocate will actively solicit feedback and will continue to receive submissions from the public on the website, and by phone, up until June 7.
